Each year, ARES grants an average of 130 scholarships within the framework of bachelor’s degrees within the framework of continuing education to nationals of its partner countries.
Presentation of the scholarship
With a mainly legal vocation, the specialization master in human rights is designed from an interdisciplinary perspective
Its program meets five objectives:
- To provide students with the opportunity to acquire specialized legal competence in the field of human rights.

For the team of teachers, interdisciplinarity requires real collaboration which, beyond the necessary coordination between the courses that the coherence of the program supposes, is based on the pursuit of joint research between various disciplines.
Have access to master’s studies by virtue of a decision of the Bureau of the Council and provided that they have distinguished themselves in their higher education or that they can justify substantial personal or professional experience in the field of human rights.
Also have access to the Master, students who, under the applicable French Community legislation, would have access to studies with a view to obtaining the academic degree which sanctions second-cycle studies.
The introduction of a scholarship application must be made according to the introduction procedures and meet the admissibility criteria described below.
The selection of scholarship holders is carried out by a selection panel for each course after analysis of their administrative admissibility by ARES.
All files received between the first and the last day of the call will be treated equally.

ARES does not charge any fees at any stage of the application or selection process whatsoever.
For the application to be admissible, the candidate must:
- Has the nationality, resides and works in one of the countries mentioned above.
- Hold a diploma comparable to a Belgian 1st cycle diploma
- Evidence of relevant professional occupation
- Complete the file in the language in which the training is given and can attest to a good written and spoken knowledge of it.
- Apply for one course only.
Selection criteria
The selection phase is carried out by a deliberative jury organized for each course.
ARES grants the selection jury the right to assess the compliance of the files with the common selection criteria described below, taken individually or in combination with each other.

Please note that compliance with the admissibility criteria does not in any way guarantee selection and eligibility for training.
Candidates do not have to obtain admission to one of the French-speaking higher education establishments in Belgium beforehand to be able to apply for ARES scholarships.
Applications must be submitted via GIRAF by January 28, 2022 at 12 p.m. (Belgian time, UTC+1) at the latest.
Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
All successful and reserve applicants will receive an email upon completion of the selections (June 2022).
Unsuccessful applicants will receive an email by the end of June 2022 at the latest.
